Tristan Thompson scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as No. 3 Texas held on for a 69-60 win over visiting Baylor on Saturday.
The Longhorns (22-3, 10-0 Big 12) stormed out to an early 31-13 lead and remained in firm control until Baylor put together an 8-1 run to make it 61-57 with 3:42 left. The Bears got as close as 63-60 in the closing moments, but could not complete the comeback.
LaceDarius Dunn scored 22 of his game-high 26 points in the second half for Baylor, including all eight points of the Bears' final surge. Dunn struggled shooting the ball, however, hitting 2 of 8 from 3-point range for the Bears (16-8, 6-5), who were 3 of 14 overall from behind the arc.
Jordan Hamilton also scored 17 points for the Longhorns, who outscored Baylor 22-5 from the foul line. Gary Johnson added 13 points for Texas.
Texas remains one game ahead of No. 2 Kansas. Either the Longhorns or Jayhawks could move up to No. 1 Monday with previously unbeaten Ohio State's loss to Wisconsin. Texas won at Kansas in January.
