LaceDarius Dunn and Perry Jones each scored a game-high 20 points as Baylor beat Texas Tech 71-59 in the Big 12 Conference opener for both teams Saturday in Lubbock, Texas.
Baylor (11-3, 1-0 Big 12) raced to an 11-0 lead in the game’s first 4:29 and held the lead late into the second half.
David Tairu made one of two free throws to give Texas Tech (8-8, 0-1 Big 12) a 50-49 lead with 7:10 remaining in the game.
A.J. Walton’s go-ahead 3-pointer gave Baylor a 52-20 lead and ignited a dominating 20-2 run over the next 5:19. Dunn, coming off a career-best 43-point performance in his last outing, scored 13 of his 20 in the second half, while Jones, a freshman center, matched his career-best with 20. Jones also had six rebounds and five steals.
Texas Tech, which had its two-game winning streak snapped, was led by John Roberson, who paced four players in double figures with 14. Tairu added 13.
