Phillip McDonald scored 12 points, and New Mexico held on for a 61-60 victory over Texas Tech on Wednesday.
Alex Kirk added 10 points for the defending Mountain West champion Lobos (11-2), who have won nine of their last 10.
Mike Singletary had 18 points for Texas Tech (6-7), but missed a crucial free throw late.
New Mexico trailed 33-27 at the half, but took a 46-45 lead early in the second half behind a 15-5 spurt. Back-to-back 3-pointers from McDonald extended the lead to 52-45.
The Red Raiders came charging back and had a chance to tie the game at 59 when Singletary stepped to the line with 1:56 left. But Singletary missed the second of two free throws, and the Lobos held on.
The Red Raiders shot 58 percent in the first half and led 33-27 after 20 minutes. New Mexico shot 31 percent ( 7 of 22) in the first half, but stayed in the game by hitting 11 of 15 free throws.
