Ramon Galloway scored 15 points off the bench and Sam Muldrow added 11 points and 11 rebounds as South Carolina managed to take down Jacksonville State, 56-49, Wednesday.
No one else reached double figures for South Carolina (8-3), which forced Jacksonville State to shoot 36 percent in a defensive slugfest.
It was tight in the first half until the final minutes, when South Carolina used a 7-0 burst to close the period and take a 34-24 edge into the locker room.
Jacksonville State (2-12), which ranks 325th in the NCAA in scoring average, managed to make South Carolina play at its level for most of the contest, holding the SEC school to 37 percent shooting. Jacksonville fell behind by as much as 47-30 midway through the second half before fighting back to pull within 54-48 with under a minute to play.
South Carolina is in the midst of a four-game home stand which continues with Boston College and South Carolina State over the next week and concludes with the SEC opener against Vanderbilt on January 8.
