Harper Kamp had 19 points and nine rebounds as California gave coach Mike Montgomery his 600th career victory with a 74-56 triumph over Hartford at Haas Pavilion on Tuesday.
Montgomery, who coached 18 seasons at Stanford, is one of sixth active coaches with 600 victories. The others are Duke's Mike Krzyzewski, Connecticut's Jim Calhoun, Syracuse's Jim Boeheim, North Carolina's Roy Williams and Maryland's Gary Williams.
Montgomery is in his third season with the Golden Bears (7-5).
California led 39-25 at halftime, and was ahead by as many as 25 points in the second half.
Freshman guard Allan Crabbe added 17 points for Cal, including five 3-pointers. Brandon Smith chipped in with 15 points as the Golden Bears powered their way to 28 free throw attempts.
Joe Zeglinski and Genesis Maciel scored 11 points apiece for the Hawks (2-9), who lost their fourth straight game. Hartford shot 33 percent from the field.
Tuesday's game served as a last test for the Golden Bears as they begin Pac-10 Conference play Sunday against Stanford.
The Golden Bears won the Pac-10 title last season with a 13-5 record before losing to Washington in the tournament title game. They swept both meetings with the Cardinal last season for the first time since 1993.
