Tim Abromaitis and No. 20 Notre Dame looked sharp in their final tuneup before their schedule gets much, much tougher.
Abromaitis recorded a double-double and the Irish cruised to a 93-53 non-conference victory over visiting Maryland-Baltimore County on Wednesday.
Notre Dame (11-1) has won three straight and is off to a hot start, but now its season really begins. There aren’t any cupcakes like the winless Retrievers on the horizon as the Irish will face ninth-ranked Georgetown, No. 5 Syracuse and No. 4 Connecticut in their next three games.
Abromaitis led Notre Dame with 21 points and added 11 rebounds. Scott Martin scored 15 points, Carleton Scott added 12 and Ben Hansbrough had 10 for the Irish.
Chris De La Rosa had 15 points and Jamar Wertz had 11 for the Retrievers (0-12).
UMBC now has a break before opening a three-game homestand. The Retrievers will try for their first win on Dec. 30 when they host Niagara before opening America East Conference play against Stony Brook on Jan. 2.
