It might be a stretch to call a victory over a 3-7 team big, but don't tell that to Presbyterian.
The Blue Hose stunned host Auburn 62-59 Saturday after jumping out to a 30-9 advantage, and holding off a huge Tigers' comeback bid.
Khalid Mutakabbir had 17 points and Walt Allen scored 12 as both played all 40 minutes, and Al'Lonzo Coleman posted 13 points and 16 rebounds in 38 minutes for Presbyterian (5-6).
Rob Chubb poured in 13 of his team-high 15 points in the second half for Auburn (3-7), which trailed 38-23 at halftime. The Tigers used a 14-2 run during which it held the Blue Hose without a field goal for more than 8 minutes to pull to within 52-51.
A Coleman layup ended the drought, and Mutakabbir followed with a 3-pointer and Allen a layup as the Blue Hose never relinquished the lead.
Auburn has struggled on offense for first-year coach Tony Barbee. It entered Saturday ranked 285th in scoring (63.4) and 292nd in field goal percentage (40.2).
The Blue Hose, which plays in the Big South Conference, had shown pluck earlier this season by testing Kansas State in a 76-67 loss.
