John Shurna was almost perfect from the field and Northwestern remained perfect this season with an 81-65 victory over Long Island on Monday in a non-conference matchup.

Shurna was 10-of-11 from the field, including 2-of-2 from the arc, but struggled at the line, going 4-of-10. He finished with 26 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

Northwestern (6-0) continued its best start since the 1993-94 squad started 9-0.

Michael Thompson scored 16 points and JerShon Cobb added 12 for the Wildcats, who shot almost as well from the field (29-58), 50 percent, as they did from the free throw line (13-of-25), 52 percent.

Northwestern valued and shared the ball against Long Island and it paid off with yet another easy win. The Wildcats had 24 assists on their 29 field goals and they committed nine turnovers to 16 for the Blackbirds.

Michael Culpo scored 22 points and Kenny Onyechi added 11 for the Blackbirds (6-4),who have lost four of their last six games following a 4-0 start.
