Aaron Bright scored a game-high 16 points, including a key 3-pointer late in the game, and Stanford improved to 2-0 in the Pac-12 with a 51-43 victory over visiting Southern Cal on Saturday.
Stanford (12-2, 2-0) held Southern Cal’s top scorer Maurice Jones to five points on 1-of-12 shooting. Jones entered the game averaging a team-high 15.1 points.
Bright’s 3-pointer with 4:24 to play gave the Cardinal a 49-41 lead and Stanford held on to snap a three-game losing streak to Southern Cal (5-10, 0-2).
Josh Owens scored 12 points for Stanford, which has won seven of its last eight games and improved to 9-1 at home.
Southern Cal, which rallied from 16 points down in the second half before losing their conference opener by four points to California, shot 16-of-46 (34.8 percent) from the field against Stanford.
Alexis Moore scored 10 of his team-high 12 points in the first half for the Trojans, who have lost three straight and six of their last seven games.
The Trojans, who entered the game ranked No. 332 out of 345 Division I teams nationally in free throw percentage, shot 9-of-17 (52.9 percent) from the line against Stanford.
