Rashaad Penny rushed for a career-high 170 yards and DK Metcalf made three touchdown receptions as the Seattle Seahawks defeated the visiting Detroit Lions 51-29 Sunday.

Russell Wilson, playing in a rare meaningless game in his 10-year NFL career, completed 20 of 29 passes for 236 yards and four scores for the Seahawks (6-10). His TD total included a 1-yard TD pass to Tyler Lockett.

Detroit's Tim Boyle made his second consecutive start for the injured Jared Goff (knee) at quarterback. Boyle was 22-of-37 passing for 262 yards and two touchdowns, with three interceptions.

The Lions (2-13-1) hoped to get a boost from the return of D'Andre Swift, who hadn't played since Thanksgiving Day because of a shoulder injury, but he rushed just four times for 32 yards as his team was forced to play catch-up.

Trailing 31-7 at the half, the Lions turned over the ball on their first play of the third quarter. Boyle fumbled the snap and then hastily threw a ball intercepted by Seattle's D.J. Reed.

Penny rushed for 8 yards on first down and Wilson hit Metcalf on the next play with a 13-yard scoring strike.

The injury-prone Penny, a 2018 first-round pick who will be a free agent in the offseason, set his previous best Dec. 12 with 137 yards at Houston. He rushed for 135 last week against Chicago.

He eclipsed both of those by halftime Sunday, as he rushed for 144 yards and scored from 15 and 6 yards.

Boyle hit Amon-Ra St. Brown with a 7-yard touchdown pass and a two-point conversion with 10:14 left in the third quarter to make it 38-15 Seattle.

The Lions recovered the onside kick and marched for another touchdown, with Boyle throwing 6 yards to offensive tackle Taylor Decker to make the score 38-22.

But that was as close as the Lions would get.

Detroit's lone touchdown in the first half came on a 26-yard run by St. Brown, who lined up in the backfield. A 47-yard kickoff return by Godwin Igwebuike set up the score.

The Lions' lone score in the fourth quarter came on a 1-yard run by Jamaal Williams with 7:04 to play.

Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner, who entered the game as the league's leading tackler, suffered a knee injury on Detroit's first drive and didn't return.

The Seahawks' Jason Myers kicked three field goals -- from 51, 36 and 42 yards.
