Southern University scored the final six points of the game and held on to defeat Tulane 90-82 on Thursday night at the F.G. Clark Activity Center in Baton Rouge, La.
Southern boosted its record to 2-1 after defeating Mississippi State 76-72 and losing to Arkansas 86-68.
Tulane (1-2) lost its first road game of the season.
Guard Adrian Rodgers led four Southern players in double figures with 20 points. Forward Jared Sam had 17 points and seven rebounds, forward Shawn Prudhomme added 13 points and guard Trelun Banks contributed 12 points and seven rebounds.
The Green Wave trailed 39-35 at halftime before the Jaguars expanded their lead to 10 points with 5:29 left in the game.
But Tulane pulled to 84-82 on a free throw by freshman guard Melvin Frazier with 18.2 seconds left. Tulane fouled immediately and kept fouling to stop the clock, but Southern held on.
Tulane sophomore Dylan Osetkowski had his second double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Malik Morgan, an LSU transfer, made four 3-pointers and finished with 18 points for the Green Wave, which shot 52 percent from the field (26 of 50). Guard Louis Dabney also had 16 points.
