Phil Pressey added 18 points and eight assists while Earnest Ross chipped in 10 points and 11 rebounds for Missouri (4-0), which will meet No. 2 Louisville in Friday's semifinals.
Missouri led for the final 16:57 following a 3-pointer by Pressey. But Stanford (3-2) answered each time the Tigers threatened to take a double-digit advantage in the second half, eventually trimming the deficit to 68-66 with 3:16 remaining.
However, Bowers and Connecticut transfer Alex Oriakhi combined to score six of the game’s next eight points to give Missouri some breathing room at 74-68 with 43 seconds remaining and Pressey closed out the game with four free throws.
Chasson Randle scored a game-high 22 points and Dwight Powell had 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Cardinal, who have dropped two straight and will play Northern Iowa in the consolation round Friday.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Michael Dixon Jr., who has yet to play for Missouri because of disciplinary reasons, continued to serve his indefinite suspension. … The Tigers improved to 17-0 against non-conference competition under second-year coach Frank Haith. … Powell redeemed himself after scoring two points and not collecting a rebound before fouling out in seven minutes during Stanford’s loss to Belmont.
