Lucas Raymond scored a power-play goal with eight seconds left in overtime to give the Detroit Red Wings a 4-3 victory against the visiting Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night.

The Red Wings converted after the Hurricanes, who had a five-game winning streak snapped, were called for too many men on the ice.

Carter Rowney, Michael Rasmussen and Dylan Larkin scored in regulation for Detroit. Red Wings goalie Alex Nedeljkovic stopped 27 shots.

Sebastian Aho, Jesper Fast and Jordan Staal scored for the Hurricanes. Antti Raanta made 37 saves.

A shot from Carolina's Teuvo Teravainen hit the post in the opening minute of overtime. Yet the Red Wings built a 7-1 edge in shots on goal in the extra period, winning for the fourth time in a row when involved in a game that extended beyond regulation.

Nedeljkovic, who was a standout last season for Carolina, took the loss in a 5-3 road setback to the Hurricanes in December. He faced just eight shots in each of the first two periods Tuesday.

The Red Wings figured to come out focused on defense after allowing 10 goals to Toronto in their most-recent game.

It was a busy third period, with Rasmussen's tally putting the Red Wings on top 2:45 into the period.

Slightly more than four minutes later, the Hurricanes drew even when Fast's shot from the right side bounced off Rowney's stick and Nedeljkovic was unable to recover.

Then the Hurricanes regained the lead on Staal's goal with 3:48 remaining. Larkin countered that just 38 seconds later with an unassisted goal, his team-best 27th of the season.

Earlier, Aho's team-leading 24th goal of the season came on a tap-in via assists from Vincent Trocheck and Teravainen to open the scoring in the first period. The Hurricanes have scored a power-play goal in three consecutive games, matching their longest string of the season.

Rowney, who was in his third game since returning from action following a month layoff with an injury, tied the score eight minutes into the second period with his fourth goal of the season. He has scored in the past two games.
