COLUMBUS -- The Blue Jackets sent their fans home happy Saturday night, but coach John Tortorella was not in the mood to add any significance to his team's season-ending 5-4 overtime win against Chicago.

"I'm not trying to be negative, but we have a lot of work to do when we break camp next year," he said after Columbus finished the season on a three-game winning streak. "This will have no bearing on it, winning the past few games. Zero bearing."

Scott Hartnell had a pair of goals for the Blue Jackets, who started the season 0-8 and finished in last place in the Eastern Conference's Metropolitan Division, eight points behind New Jersey.

Cam Atkinson's shot ricocheted off Hartnell past Chicago goalie Corey Crawford, who could not grab the puck out of midair to prevent the game-winner with 3:32 on the clock.

"We have to start over," Tortorella insisted. "My glass is half full. I feel really good about a number of kids that came here and played who are back in the minors, but there is no chance any of this makes a difference as far as where we are as a team."

Hartnell also had two assists while Patrick Kane and Artemi Panarin had two goals and one assist each for the Blackhawks, who finished third in the Western Conference's Central Division and will open the playoffs against St. Louis.

"We know that we're gonna have our hands full and they're as good as any team in the league," said Quenneville, whose team beat the Blues in a first-round series two years ago. "So we've got to be at our best and our A-plus game is gonna be needed."

The defending Stanley Cup champions played without several of their top players but were happy to work Crawford back into the lineup after he missed 11 games with an upper-body injury.

"It's hard after missing some games to come in, but there are some things I thought I did well and obviously some other things that didn't go too well, but it's good to get in there and get a feel for it," Crawford said after stopping 20 of 25 shots.

He declared himself ready for the postseason, and Quenneville said all his injured players would be ready for the Blues.

Kane slapped a one-timer past Sergei Bobrovsky to start the scoring nine seconds into the game. Panarin skated into the slot and drew the attention of both defensemen before sliding the puck to an open Kane, who set up Panarin for Chicago's second goal, a one-timer on the power play with 8:35 left in the first.

Panarin made it 3-0 with an unassisted goal less than three minutes later and finished with 30 on the season.

The Blue Jackets got on the board at 6:29 of the second when Hartnell backhanded a loose puck by Crawford. Brandon Saad and Alexander Wennberg were credited with assists on Hartnell's 22nd goal of the season and the 300th of his NHL career.

Matt Calvert made it a one-goal game when he grabbed a loose puck behind the Chicago net and flung a backhander that went off the back of Chicago defenseman Trevor van Reimsdyk into the net at 12:55.

After Saad tied the game late in the second period, Wennberg gave Columbus a 4-3 lead 3:09 into the third period thanks to a pretty pass from Hartnell, who had set up behind the net.

Kane tied the game at four with a goal at the 10:11 mark of the third period and finished with career highs of 46 goals, 60 assists and a league-leading 106 points.

"I think he's been the best player in the league," Crawford said. "Points-wise, he's showed it but he's been really smart as a player, too, knowing when to take chances and when to be smart with the puck in the right areas. He's just his game is just evolving so much."

NOTES: With their playoff position already set, the Blackhawks faced the Blue Jackets without C Jonathan Toews and D Niklas Hjalmarsson, who were healthy scratches, along with G Michael Leighton. F Artem Anisimov, F Marian Hossa and F Andrew Shaw were held out with injuries and D Duncan Keith remained suspended. ... The Blue Jackets, who entered the night assured of a ninth-place finish in the Eastern Conference, scratched RW David Clarkson, D Cody Goloubef, D Fedor Tyutin and G Curtis McElhinney. ... Prior to the game, Columbus assigned RW Josh Anderson and RW Oliver Bjorkstrand to Lake Erie of the AHL.
