SUNRISE, Fla. -- Florida Panthers left winger Brandon Pirri had been a healthy scratch in four straight games.

Given a chance to play, he wasn't going to let anything stand in his way -- not even a stick in the face.

"I took a high stick so my visor was ... I couldn't see anything," said Pirri, who has been the subject of trade rumors. "I was just trying to get in front. Luckily, I got a piece of (the puck)."

Pirri's deflection goal was the Panthers' first, and it got Florida started in what their fifth straight win, defeating the Detroit Red Wings 6-3 on Thursday night at the BB&T Center.

Florida right winger Jaromir Jagr had a goal and two assists -- his first three-point game since October. The goal was his 16th of the season, breaking the NHL record for scores by a player age 43 or older -- one more than Gordie Howe had in 1979-80.

"Jagr is a legend," said Panthers center Aleksander Barkov, 20. "He was my biggest idol when I was younger."

The Panthers (31-15-5), who lead the Atlantic Division, got first-period goals from Pirri, Barkov and center Vincent Trocheck -- all within a three-minute span. Center Derek MacKenzie scored in the second period, and Trocheck added an empty-netter with 5:41 remaining in the third.

During its winning streak, Florida has scored at least four goals in every game. The Panthers have 25 goals in those five games and at least five goals in four straight games, a franchise record.

The bright spot for Detroit was center Dylan Larkin, a leading candidate for NHL Rookie of the Year honors. He scored twice and leads his team with 17 goals. Defenseman Mike Green added a power-play goal with 7:24 left in the third period to make it 5-3, but that was as close as Detroit got.

Panthers goalie Roberto Luongo, starting his first game since playing in the All-Star Game on Sunday, earned his ninth straight win, a franchise record.

Luongo (36 saves) also got career win No. 424, passing Tony Esposito for seventh place on the NHL list.

Meanwhile, Detroit backup goalie Jimmy Howard (27 saves) lost his seventh straight game. He is 0-4-3 since his last win on Dec. 3.

The Red Wings (25-18-8) are 2-4-1 since Jan. 17 and are the fourth-lowest scoring team in the league since Dec. 28.

After Pirri scored, Florida made it 2-0 on a power play when Barkov collected a rebound off a shot by right winger Reilly Smith. Barkov showed great dexterity and poise, switching the puck from forehand to backhand before beating Howard high to his glove side.

Trocheck gave Florida a 3-0 lead, showing outstanding speed, racing past three Detroit defenders.

"I work on my skating every summer," said Trocheck, who leads the Panthers with 17 goals this season. "You can never progress too much in anything."

Larkin, left alone in the slot on a power play, earned his first goal with just seven seconds left in the first period, beating a defenseless Luongo.

Just 68 seconds later -- at the start of the second period -- Larkin scored again, this time on a breakaway.

Florida went up 4-2 on MacKenzie's goal. Pirri fired a pass to Mackenzie, who was rushing toward the net. The puck bounced in off Mackenzie's body. The goal was reviewed twice -- Detroit claimed goalie interference -- but the play stood as called.

"(MacKenzie's) stick impeded (Howard's) ability to kick his leg out," Detroit coach Jeff Blashill said when asked why he asked for a review.

The Panthers scored two of the three goals in the third, including the empty-netter, to put the game away.

Blashill, whose team plays host to Florida on Monday, didn't seem too upset with the loss.

"I was real happy with the way our guys continued to battle back," Blashill said. "I was happy in lots of areas. That might sound funny to fans when you lose 6-3. But you can come and watch the tape. The execution was pretty good."

NOTES: Florida RW Jaromir Jagr has 738 career goals, three behind Brett Hull for third place on the NHL list. Jagr is sixth in assists with 1,101. ... Florida has won 17 straight games with D Aaron Ekblad -- its last loss with him in the lineup was Dec. 12. ... Detroit C Riley Sheahan (illness) returned to the lineup. ...
