Kings 5, Rangers 4 (2OT): Captain Dustin Brown scored 10:26 into double overtime as host Los Angeles erased a two-goal deficit in the third period and seized a 2-0 advantage in the Stanley Cup final.

New York's Chris Kreider had two point-blank opportunities to end the contest in the first overtime, hitting the far post from the inner edge of the right faceoff circle at 7:51 before missing the net on a breakaway near the 16 1/2-minute mark. Los Angeles ended the marathon when defenseman Willie Mitchell's blast from the left point was deflected by Brown, who sent the puck between the pads of Henrik Lundqvist (39 saves).

Dwight King and Mitchell each collected a goal and an assist while former Ranger Marian Gaborik netted his NHL-leading 13th tally for the Kings. Jarret Stoll also scored and Justin Williams notched three assists in the victory.

Mats Zuccarello, Derick Brassard and defenseman Ryan McDonagh each scored and set up a goal while Martin St. Louis also tallied for the Rangers, who squandered an early 2-0 lead in Game 1 en route to a 3-2 overtime loss. New York hosts Game 3 on Monday.

The Rangers won their previous 10 postseason contests when leading after two periods but saw their 4-2 advantage evaporate in short order. King, who gained position in front of Lundqvist on a controversial play, deflected defenseman Matt Greene's shot from the point 1:58 into the third before Gaborik made McDonagh pay for a turnover by beating the Swedish netminder at 7:36.

Mitchell's blast from the point beat a screened Lundqvist for a power-play goal with 5:21 remaining in the second period to trim the Rangers' lead to 3-2. The crowd at Staples Center was energized by the tally, but New York altered the momentum by answering 11 seconds later. Mitchell and Jonathan Quick (34 saves) fumbled an exchange behind the net and Zuccarello alertly fed Brassard in front as New York regained its two-goal advantage.
