Blue Jackets 4, Islanders 0: Boone Jenner and Mark Letestu each recorded a goal and an assist while Sergei Bobrovsky posted his second shutout in three games as host Columbus solidified its hold on the second wild card in the Eastern Conference.
Defensemen Jack Johnson and Ryan Murray added power-play tallies as the Blue Jackets moved three points clear of New Jersey and Toronto for the final playoff berth and pulled within one of Detroit for the top wild-card spot. Brandon Dubinsky notched two assists and Bobrovsky turned aside 31 shots to earn his fifth shutout of the season and ninth career as Columbus remained two points behind third-place Philadelphia in the Metropolitan Division with four games left.
Anders Nilsson (29 saves) had his three-start winning streak halted for New York, which suffered its first regulation defeat in eight games (5-1-2). The Islanders allowed three power-play tallies on six chances and were blanked for the sixth time this season.
Jenner supplied Bobrovsky with the only goal he would need during a man advantage 4:26 into the opening period, racing in to poke Letestu's shot over the goal line after it got by Nilsson. Johnson doubled the lead just over 8 1/2 minutes later by whistling a one-timer from the top of the right faceoff circle past Nilsson.
Letestu and Jenner worked a perfect give-and-go midway through the second period, with the former burying a feed into an open net on Columbus' first shot of the session. Murray, in his second game back since missing nearly a month following knee surgery, capped the scoring with a straight-on slap shot with 67 seconds left in the period.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Jenner's goal was his 14th of the season, the second-highest total for a Columbus rookie behind only Rick Nash's 17 in 2002-03. ... Islanders D Calvin de Haan, who suffered an upper-body injury in Saturday's loss to Washington, still was being evaluated Sunday and is not expected to return this season. ... Dubinsky extended his point streak to four games and boosted his totals to 22 points in his last 20 contests versus New York.
