Flyers 6, Capitals 4: Captain Claude Giroux collected two goals and an assist for the second straight game and Jakub Voracek also tallied twice as host Philadelphia completed a home-and-home sweep of Washington.

Rookie Michael Raffl also scored and Steve Downie found the empty net with 52 seconds remaining for the Flyers, who have posted seven victories in their last eight games and won the season series against their Metropolitan Division rival (3-1-1). Defenseman Andrew MacDonald notched an assist in his Philadelphia debut and Steve Mason turned aside 21 shots.

Captain Alex Ovechkin netted his NHL-leading 44th goal while Joel Ward and Brooks Laich also tallied on the power play for Washington, which dropped a 5-4 overtime decision to Philadelphia on Sunday. Troy Brouwer also scored, Ovechkin added an assist and Braden Holtby yielded four goals on 18 shots before being replaced by Philipp Grubauer (10 saves) midway through the second period.

Philadelphia chased Holtby and seized a 4-0 lead as defenseman Luke Schenn's blast from the point caromed off the stick of Raffl and into the net. Ward put Washington on the scoreboard at 14:06 of the second before Ovechkin and Brouwer converted centering feeds nearly three minutes apart midway through the third.

Voracek beat Grubauer with a wrist shot from the slot for his second goal of the contest and 18th of the season at 11:51 of the third. Laich deflected defenseman Mike Green's shot from the point with exactly six minutes remaining for Washington's third power-play goal, but the Capitals failed to net the equalizer.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Giroux breezed past Ovechkin before beating Holtby with a backhander to open the scoring 6:48 into the first period and gave Philadelphia a 3-0 lead with his team-leading 23rd goal at 5:26 of the second. ... Flyers C Vincent Lecavalier and Capitals D John Erskine received game misconducts following their participation in a line brawl during the first period. ... MacDonald logged 18:04 of ice time in his first game since being acquired from the New York Islanders. The Flyers traded fellow D Andrej Meszaros to Boston on Wednesday for a 2014 third-round draft choice. ... Capitals D Dmitry Orlov served the first contest of his two-game suspension for his boarding penalty on C Brayden Schenn on Sunday. ... Washington made one deal before the deadline, acquiring G Jaroslav Halak and a 2015 third-round pick from Buffalo for G Michal Neuvirth and D Rostislav Klesla.
