Stars 4, Hurricanes 1: Captain Jamie Benn extended his home point streak to nine games with a short-handed goal and two assists as the Stars defeated Carolina in Dallas for the sixth straight time.
Defenseman Brenden Dillon also scored while short-handed and Tyler Seguin tallied at even strength for the Stars, who improved to 10-0-1 in their last 11 home meetings with the Hurricanes. Cody Eakin added an empty-net goal and Kari Lehtonen turned aside 29 shots as Dallas raised its record to 2-0-0 on its four-game homestand and ran its home point streak to six contests (4-0-2).
Captain Eric Staal netted the lone goal for Carolina, which posted the franchise's only win at Dallas on Feb. 11, 1996 while known as the Hartford Whalers. Anton Khudobin finished with 30 saves as the Hurricanes fell to 0-2-0 on their five-game road trip.
Dallas wasted little time getting on the board as Seguin opened the scoring 3:18 into the contest. Rookie Valeri Nichushkin made a backhand pass across the slot to Seguin, who beat Khudobin from the left faceoff circle for his team-leading 25th goal.
Dillon doubled the lead less than three minutes later, grabbing a loose puck at the top of the slot and firing it past Khudobin at 6:13. Benn made it 3-0 with 85 seconds remaining in the middle session, splitting a pair of defenders in the slot and sliding the puck around the outstretched right leg of Khudobin.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Khudobin has lost four of his last six decisions but has yet to allow more than three goals in 21 games this season. ... Seguin has registered at least one point in eight of his last nine contests (four goals, eight assists). ... Benn has collected seven goals and nine assists during his home point streak. ... Carolina received a scare 6 1/2 minutes into the third period as Khudobin was run into hard by Dallas LW Antoine Roussel, who received a charging major and game misconduct along with a bloody nose in an ensuing fight with Hurricanes D Ron Hainsey. Khudobin remained in the game after being attended to by the team trainer.
