Sharks 3, Flames 2: Joe Pavelski scored his second goal of the game with 5:06 remaining in the second period to snap a tie and lead host San Jose to its fourth straight victory.
Tommy Wingels also tallied and Antti Niemi turned aside 21 shots for the Sharks, who improved to 17-2-3 at home. Pavelski has recorded six goals during a three-game streak and 11 over his last 10 contests.
Jiri Hudler and Kevin Westgarth scored for the Flames, whose winless streak reached four games (0-3-1). Karri Ramo finished with 24 saves as Calgary fell to 3-12-3 in its last 18.
Hudler opened the scoring at 4:08 of the first period, grabbing the puck in the left corner and sliding it between the skates of Sharks defenseman Brad Stuart before slipping a backhand shot past Niemi. It was Hudler's 13th goal, tying him with rookie Sean Monahan and Mike Cammalleri for the team lead.
San Jose quickly took the lead as Pavelski and Wingels scored 21 seconds apart later in the period.
Defenseman Justin Braun unleashed a shot from the right point that deflected first off Calgary captain Mark Giordano, then Pavelski before getting past Ramo with 7:38 remaining. Wingels gave the Sharks a 2-1 edge when his shot from along the right-wing boards bounced off Ramo and into the net.
The Flames pulled even 51 seconds later as Westgarth buried a rebound in the slot after Niemi stopped Brian McGrattan's sinking shot from the right point. But Pavelski restored San Jose's advantage during a power play late in the second session, tipping captain Joe Thornton's pass out of mid-air and past Ramo to complete his second straight multi-goal performance and raise his season total to 27 - four shy of his career high set in 2011-12.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Thornton's assist was his 1,171st career point, moving him past Bobby Hull for sole possession of 48th place on the all-time list. ... Flames C Paul Byron suffered a lower-body injury early in the second period and did not return. ... Calgary re-signed C Matt Stajan to a four-year, $12.5 million contract extension. ...
