Blues 5, Oilers 2: Chris Stewart and captain David Backes scored power-play goals to lead visiting St. Louis to its season-high sixth consecutive victory.

Vladimir Tarasenko recorded a goal and an assist while Maxim Lapierre and Patrik Berglund also scored as the Blues gave Ken Hitchcock a victory in his 1,200th game as an NHL coach. Brian Elliott turned aside 16 shots while Vladimir Sobotka and defensemen Jordan Leopold and Alex Pietrangelo collected two assists apiece to help St. Louis improve to 8-0-1 in its last nine and pull within two points of Central Division-leading Chicago.

Nail Yakupov and Mark Arcobello scored for Edmonton, which tumbled to its 11th loss in 14th games (3-9-2). Ilya Bryzgalov made 25 saves but allowed three goals on 10 second-period shots.

Stewart had the lone goal of the first period, hammering a shot home from the point moments after he was denied on the doorstep for his first goal since registering a hat trick against the Oilers on Dec. 21. Yakupov and Arcobello sandwiched goals around the tally by Lapierre, who was playing in his 500th game, for a 2-2 deadlock just over five minutes into the second.

Backes put the Blues ahead to stay midway through the session, whistling a snap shot over the shoulder of Bryzgalov to halt his five-game goalless drought. Tarasenko capped the five-goal second period three minutes later to secure St. Louis' fourth straight win in Edmonton.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Stewart has scored 10 of his 14 goals on the road, including four against the Oilers. ... Edmonton RW Ales Hemsky, who was selected to represent the Czech Republic in the Olympics, left the game and did not return "for precautionary reasons" while D Jeff Petry played in his 200th game. ... The Blues tied Chicago and Detroit for the most Olympians with 10 - Ds Pietrangelo and Jay Bouwmeester were named to Team Canada, RW Alex Steen and C Patrik Berglund were selected for Team Sweden, Tarasenko was picked by Russia and G Jaroslav Halak was named by Slovakia. They joined Backes, C T.J. Oshie and,D Kevin Shattenkirk, who previously were named to Team USA, and Sobotka (Czech Republic).
