Kevin Poulin allowed three goals on 16 shots before being pulled in the second period and Anders Nilsson made 12 saves for the reeling Islanders, who have dropped eight of their last 10 contests.

After tallying twice in Thursday's 4-1 win over Buffalo, Read continued his surge by cleaning up a rebound of Sean Couturier's shot to snap a scoreless draw 46 seconds into the middle session. Simmonds doubled the advantage with his third goal in four games before Giroux one-timed a blast from the left circle to extend Philadelphia's streak with a man-advantage tally to six straight contests.

Tavares trimmed the deficit with 5:56 left in the second after converting a brilliant feed from Thomas Vanek and Boulton scored off an offensive-zone draw to bring the Islanders within one. Schenn answered after coming off the bench to clean up Jakub Voracek's shot with 7:39 remaining in the third before Read added an empty-netter.
