Predators 3, Avalanche 1: David Legwand scored the go-ahead goal with 1:14 remaining in the third period and Pekka Rinne made 25 saves as Nashville topped visiting Colorado.
Patric Hornqvist forged a 1-1 tie with his fourth goal and Paul Gaustad added an empty-net tally with 15 seconds left to put it away for the Predators, who improved to 4-1-2 in their last seven games. Nashville pulled even with the St. Louis Blues for the eighth seed in the Western Conference with 38 points.
Matt Duchene scored and Jean-Sebastien Giguere turned aside 35 shots as the Avalanche fell for the sixth time in seven games.
Legwand came from behind the goal and cleaned up rookie Taylor Beck’s rebound, stuffing the puck past Giguere to give Nashville a 2-1 lead.
Duchene used his speed to snap the scoreless drought at 1:01 of the third, taking a backhanded feed from PA Parenteau deep in the Colorado zone and outracing three Predators before beating Rinne for his 15th goal. Hornqvist knotted it up on the power play at 8:23 of the session, stationing himself on the right side of the net and cutting across the top of the crease to win a scrum and poke the puck between Giguere’s pads.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Avalanche have averaged 1.7 goals over their last seven games, with the lone win in that span a 1-0 overtime shutout of the Predators on Saturday. … Beck, who collected two assists, has six points in his first eight career games. … Nashville was without LW Gabriel Bourque (upper body) and C Mike Fisher (hand). Both are day-to-day.
