Oregon 67, No. 17 Utah 64: Joseph Young drilled a deep 3-pointer at the buzzer and scored 25 points as the second-seeded Ducks edged the Utes in the semifinals of the Pac-12 tournament in Las Vegas.
Dillon Brooks had 14 points and Elgin Cook added 13 for Oregon (25-8), which faces top-seeded Arizona in Saturday’s championship game. Young, the Pac-12 Player of the Year, was 8-of-16 from the field and made three 3-pointers, including his buzzer-beating game-winner from 30 feet out.
Brandon Taylor scored a career-high 24 points, including 6-of-9 from 3-point range, and Delon Wright collected 16 points, nine rebounds and five assists for No. 3 seed Utah (24-8). Dakarai Tucker had nine points and Jakob Poeltl grabbed eight rebounds for the Utes, who outrebounded the Ducks 36-24 but were 12-of-19 from the foul line.
Utah shot 55 percent in the opening period and took a 31-30 lead into the break after Oregon closed with five points in the final minute. Taylor, who made four 3-pointers and scored 16 points in the first half, tied the game at 60 with 2:10 left on his fifth trey before Cook converted a three-point play and Benjamin made one of two foul shots to push Oregon’s lead to 64-60.
Utah missed consecutive 3-point attempts but maintained possession and pulled within two as Tucker converted two foul shots with 43 seconds remaining. Wright converted two foul shots to tie the game at 64 with 7.2 seconds left before Young’s heroics sent the Ducks into the Pac-12 tournament title game for the second time in the last three years.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Oregon lost both meetings against Arizona during the regular season by a combined total of 52 points. … Utah F Jordan Loveridge was held scoreless on 0-of-7 shooting after scoring 18 points in Thursday’s quarterfinal win over Stanford. … Young has opened the tournament by averaging 27.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in wins over Colorado and Utah.
