Thunder 106, Spurs 94: Kevin Durant scored 16 of his 28 points in the second half to reach 25 for the 39th straight contest as Oklahoma City ended visiting San Antonio’s franchise-record 19-game winning streak.
Russell Westbrook added 27 points and six assists for the Thunder, who moved within three games of the Spurs for the top spot in the Western Conference. Reggie Jackson scored 14 points off the bench and Serge Ibaka collected 11 points and 12 rebounds for Oklahoma City, which swept the four-game season series from San Antonio.
Patty Mills hit five 3-pointers en route to 21 points off the bench for the Spurs, who had not lost since falling at Phoenix on Feb. 21. Tim Duncan and Kawhi Leonard each contributed 17 points while Tony Parker was held to six on 3-of-10 shooting for San Antonio.
Mills scored eight straight points to draw the Spurs within 91-83 midway through the fourth quarter but Ibaka stopped the bleeding with a jumper and Westbrook delivered a steal and a transition dunk to extend the lead back to 12 points. Durant’s free throws with 3:31 left pushed him over the 25-mark, moving him within a game of tying Michael Jordan for the longest such streak in the last 50 years.
San Antonio carried a 51-48 lead into the half but Durant’s jumper kicked off a 12-2 burst that left Oklahoma City on top 69-60 with 4:13 left in the third. Durant’s basket closing out the period sent the Thunder into the fourth quarter with a nine-point cushion.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Jordan posted his streak of 40 straight games with at least 25 points in the 1986-87 season. … Oklahoma City C Kendrick Perkins (groin) played for the first time since Feb. 20 and was held scoreless in 12 minutes. … San Antonio G Manu Ginobili (rest) sat out the second night of the back-to-back.
