Kenneth Faried had 19 points and 11 rebounds while Corey Brewer added 16 points off the bench for the Nuggets, who nearly squandered a 15-point fourth-quarter lead before posting their third straight victory.
Tim Duncan collected 31 points and 18 rebounds for the Spurs, who have dropped four in a row on the road for the first time since the start of the 2011-12 season.
With Denver enjoying a comfortable 98-83 advantage with nine minutes to play, San Antonio began to chip away. Duncan scored four points to highlight a 9-0 run and Patrick Mills drilled his career-best fifth 3-pointer to bring the Spurs within five at 100-95.
San Antonio closed to within three on two occasions but missed four consecutive shots in the final minute before falling.
