Dirk Nowitzki finished with 31 points on 10-of-12 shooting and added 15 rebounds as the Dallas Mavericks escaped the Utah Jazz, 103-97, on Saturday.
DeShawn Stevenson added 17 points and Caron Butler chipped in 16 for the Mavericks, who extended their winning streak to 12 games.
Dallas looked as though it would run away with it in the first quarter when it shot out to a 29-4 lead after the first seven minutes. Nowitzki scored 11 points and had three 3-pointers during the spurt. The Jazz woke up after that and closed it to 34-19 after the first.
The Jazz kept chipping away into the fourth quarter, tying it at 89 all when Deron Williams converted a three-point play with 4:31 to play. Nowitzki put the Mavericks back on top with a pair of free throws and stretched it to 99-95 with a three-point play with two minutes on the clock.
Williams ended up with 34 points and Paul Millsap added 16 points and eight rebounds for Utah.
