Patrick Corbin pitched six scoreless innings, Andres Chaparro and Jose Tena hit back-to-back homers and the Washington Nationals beat the visiting New York Yankees 4-2 on Tuesday night.
Dylan Crews, playing his second major league game, had the first two hits of his career for the Nationals.
The Yankees threatened to tie the game while facing Washington closer Kyle Finnegan in the ninth. Jazz Chisholm Jr. led off with a double, took third on defensive indifference and scored on Anthony Volpe's groundout to pull New York within 4-2.
Austin Wells and Alex Verdugo then singled, but Finnegan got DJ LeMahieu and Gleyber Torres to both fly out, giving Finnegan his 33rd save of the season.
Corbin (4-12), who earned career victory No. 100 in his previous start, allowed two hits and two walks while striking out six on Tuesday. He won consecutive starts for the first time this year.
Washington prevailed despite going 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
Aaron Judge had a double and a walk for the Yankees, who had won five of their past six.
Yankees starter Gerrit Cole (5-3) allowed three runs on six hits over five innings. He walked one and fanned seven. Cole came into the game 2-0 with a 1.17 ERA in four starts this month.
Trailing 4-0, the Yankees loaded the bases with no outs against Jacob Barnes in the eighth. LeMahieu and Torres opened the frame with singles. Juan Soto then hit a grounder to second, but everyone was safe on Luis Garcia Jr.'s throwing error.
However, Judge proceeded to hit into a double play, with one run scoring -- and Finnegan came on and got Giancarlo Stanton to ground out to end the inning.
The Nationals took a 1-0 lead in the second. Tena singled with one out and Crews followed with his first big-league hit, a double to left. Tena scored when Joey Gallo grounded out.
In the fourth, Chaparro led off with a homer to left, his first long ball in the majors. Tena followed with a blast to center, and the Nationals led 3-0.
Crews hit a dribbler for a single with one out in the sixth and ended up on second on the play due to catcher Jose Trevino's throwing error. Crews stole third, then scored when Gallo reached on an error by first baseman LeMahieu.
