Joey Votto drove in three runs and Elly De La Cruz stole home to lead the Cincinnati Reds to a key 8-5 win over the host Milwaukee Brewers.
It was a back-and-forth affair, with both offenses dealing big blows. The scoring started with Willy Adames hitting a solo home run in the first.
Will Benson then answered that solo shot with one of his own in the top of the third for Cincinnati, but Milwaukee did some damage in the bottom of the third as well.
Christian Yelich drove in a run with a double and then Adames went deep again, this time driving in Yelich. Adames has 16 home runs on the season and led Milwaukee on the day with three runs batted in.
That lead didn't last long, however, as Votto drove in three runs with a blast to right field in the top of the fourth, knotting the game up at 4-4. It was Votto's seventh homer of the year.
After the Brewers scored once in the bottom of the fourth and the Reds brought home a run in the top of the fifth, things started to go wrong for Milwaukee in the bottom of the sixth.
The Brewers loaded the bases in the inning and, with two outs, Yelich grounded out, resulting in no runs scoring.
Then in the next frame, Cincinnati was down to its final out when De La Cruz drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI single and proceeded to steal second base. He then stole third base and, before another pitch was thrown by Elvis Peguero, De La Cruz stole home on the same play.
Cincinnati tacked on an insurance run in the ninth on a Jonathan India sacrifice fly after Brewers manager Craig Counsell was ejected for arguing a balk call.
Peguero (1-2) took the loss for Milwaukee, allowing two runs and three hits in one inning.
Lucas Sims (3-1) picked up the win for the Reds after taking over in the sixth inning. He picked up two strikeouts and allowed no hits in 1 1/3 innings.
