Pinch hitter Harold Castro singled home the go-ahead run with two outs in the 10th inning and the visiting Detroit Tigers went on to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-1 on Friday night.
Willi Castro, who started the 10th at second base, scored on Castro's single against Trevor Richards (5-2). Following the go-ahead hit, Robbie Grossman walked, and Adam Cimber took over on the mound. Cimber allowed RBI singles to Jonathan Schoop and Jeimer Candelario.
Gregory Soto (5-3), who pitched around two walks in the ninth, threw a perfect bottom of the 10th as the Tigers ended a four-game losing streak.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit his 36th home run of the season for the Blue Jays, who were playing their first game after a 3-6 road trip.
Toronto grounded into four double plays.
Detroit left-hander Tyler Alexander allowed one run, four hits and two walks while striking out six in seven innings.
Toronto left-hander Robbie Ray gave up one run on five hits and no walks while striking out 11 in eight innings.
After Guerrero led off the fourth with his first homer since Aug. 8 to put Toronto up 1-0, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. singled with one out. Guerriel took third on Alejandro Kirk's double to left that skipped past left fielder Castro, but Alexander worked out of the jam with two popups.
The Tigers had two baserunners in an inning against Ray only once, when they had two singles in the third.
Detroit had only an infield single against Ray from the fourth inning through the seventh.
The Tigers' Zack Short led off the eighth with a single to left and took second on a sacrifice by Grayson Greiner.
Short stole third base. Grossman flied out to right, but it was too shallow to allow the runner to make an attempt to score. Short tied the game, however, when he came home on a wild pitch.
Jose Cisnero replaced Alexander in the bottom of the eighth and worked around a single and a walk.
Toronto's Jordan Romano worked around a two-out double in the top of the ninth.
Blue Jays designated hitter Kevin Smith collected his first major league hit, a single in the third inning. He was playing in his second game and making his first start.
