Trey Mancini hit a tiebreaking solo homer in the sixth and added an RBI single in the eighth as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the visiting Boston Red Sox 4-1 in the finale of a four-game series Monday night.
The Red Sox won the first three games of the series and had beaten the Orioles six straight times overall -- all in Baltimore. The Orioles swept a three-game set in Boston to open the season.
Both starters pitched well. Baltimore's Jorge Lopez gave up one run on four hits in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out five without a walk and recorded his longest outing of the season.
The Baltimore bullpen held Boston scoreless and hitless over the final 3 1/3 innings, retiring all 10 batters and fanning six.
Tanner Scott (2-2) took home the victory after striking out the only batter he faced. Travis Lakins Sr. and Paul Fry each handled an inning, and Cesar Valdez pitched the ninth for his eighth save.
Red Sox starter Martin Perez threw five strong innings. He allowed one run on four hits, striking out four with one walk and not getting into much trouble.
Ryan Mountcastle continued working his way out of his early-season slump by sending a home run to deep left off Perez starting the second inning.
The Red Sox tied the game in the fourth.
Boston put runners on first and second with one out before a Lopez wild pitch moved up both. Rafael Devers then hit a sacrifice fly to left, bringing home J.D. Martinez.
Baltimore showed its power again in the bottom of the sixth. Mancini greeted reliever Matt Andriese (1-2) with a 440-foot blast over the wall in center that gave the Orioles a 2-1 lead.
In the eighth, Cedric Mullins blooped a ball into short left field that twice bounced off of the glove of shortstop Xander Bogaerts and rolled away. Mullins kept running and turned it into a triple.
Austin Hays walked, and Mancini then came through again, hitting a single to center that gave the Orioles a 3-1 lead. Freddy Galvis added a sacrifice fly off Phillips Valdez later in the inning as Baltimore snapped Boston's four-game winning streak.
