Clayton Kershaw beat the Oakland Athletics for the first time in his career Tuesday night, scattering four hits over seven innings while getting home run support from Max Muncy, Edwin Rios and Mookie Betts in the Los Angeles Dodgers' 5-1 road win.

Rios, Betts, Justin Turner and Austin Barnes had two hits apiece for the Dodgers, who won their fifth straight after an Opening Day loss at Colorado.

Kershaw (1-1) pitched that game, taking the loss after allowing six runs (five earned) on 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings.

The 33-year-old was back on his vintage form against the A's, striking out eight without issuing a walk in his 91-pitch effort.

Oakland became the 24th team against which Kershaw has recorded a win in his career. He hadn't received a decision in four previous head-to-heads with Oakland.

En route to their sixth straight loss to open the season, the A's put together two of the four hits they'd get against Kershaw within their first three batters of the game. One-out doubles by Jed Lowrie and Ramon Laureano gave Oakland a quick 1-0 lead.

Kershaw struck out Matt Chapman and Sean Murphy to limit the damage, then retired 18 of the 20 men he faced in the next six innings to pick up his 176th career win.

Blake Treinen pitched a scoreless eighth before allowing a leadoff single to Laureano in the ninth. Kenley Jansen entered and issued a two-out walk to Stephen Piscotty by preserved the four-run lead.

After Barnes drew the Dodgers even with an RBI double in the second inning, Los Angeles used the homers by Muncy and Rios to take the lead for good in the third against A's starter Chris Bassitt (0-2).

Muncy's homer, his first of the season, came after Turner led off the third with a single. One out later, Rios also smacked his first homer of the year to make it a three-run inning and a 4-1 lead.

Bassitt completed six innings, charged with four runs on nine hits. He walked one and struck out four.

Betts' homer, also his first of the year, came off A's reliever Jordan Weems to cap the scoring in the ninth.

Lowrie and Laureano each collected a double and a single for the A's, who will seek to avoid an 0-7, season-opening homestand when they host the Dodgers in an afternoon contest on Wednesday.
