The Houston Astros scored in each of the first six innings and cruised to a 14-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday in Monterrey, Mexico.
The Astros scored one run in the first inning, two each in the second and third, one in the fourth, and two each in the fifth and sixth innings, peppering Angels starter Trevor Cahill (1-3), who went just 3 1/3 innings, and reliever Chris Stratton (four innings).
Of Houston's 14 hits, 10 went for extra bases, including two home runs by Alex Bregman and one homer each by Michael Brantley, George Springer and Yuli Gurriel. Brantley also had a double and four RBIs, Gurriel had a triple and two RBIs, and Bregman had three hits and four RBIs.
Astros starter Wade Miley (2-2) was the beneficiary of all of the offense, giving up two runs on six hits and two walks in six innings to get the win. Miley and the Astros bullpen also combined to do something that no pitching staff has been able to do this season -- keep Mike Trout off the bases.
For the first time this season, Trout did not reach base via a hit or walk, going 0-for-4 with one strikeout. He had reached base in his first 29 games of the season, setting a new club record.
To make matters worse for Trout and the Angels, Trout fouled a ball off his left shin in the fifth inning, hurting him enough to require a trainer to come out and take a look. Trout remained in the game.
The Angels' only offense in the game came on an RBI single by Kole Calhoun in the fourth inning, and a solo homer by Albert Pujols in the sixth. For Pujols, the homer was No. 638 of his career (sixth all-time) and gave him 1,999 career RBIs, leaving him one short of joining Hank Aaron and Alex Rodriguez as the only players with 2,000 career RBIs (career started since 1920).
Houston has beaten the Angels in six consecutive games, including the final five contests between the two teams last season.
