Marcell Ozuna and Yadier Molina homered in a four-run fourth inning, and the St. Louis Cardinals completed a three-game sweep of the visiting Milwaukee Brewers with a 5-2 win on Wednesday afternoon.
Ozuna, Paul Goldschmidt, Lane Thomas and Paul DeJong had two hits each for St. Louis, which has won five straight overall.
Brewers first baseman Eric Thames homered for the Brewers in the 10th meeting between these teams already this season. Milwaukee had won five of the first six against the Cardinals, but has dropped the past four meetings.
St. Louis right-hander Adam Wainwright (2-2) came in 15-9 in his career against Milwaukee with three shutouts and a 2.36 ERA. He went six innings, allowing one run and four hits with three strikeouts and a walk.
Brewers starter Jhoulys Chacin (2-3) did not allow a hit through the first three innings, but he gave up back-to-back singles to Goldschmidt and DeJong to open the fourth before Ozuna lined a three-run homer over the fence in left for a 3-1 lead.
Molina followed with a solo shot to make it 4-1.
Chacin was finished after four innings, allowing four runs and five hits, striking out three and walking one.
The Cardinals added another run in the seventh on a fielder's-choice groundout by Jose Martinez.
Milwaukee right fielder Christian Yelich was not in the starting lineup for the first time this season.
Yelich entered the day leading the majors in home runs (13) and RBIs (31). He went 11-for-21 in the first six games against the Cardinals this season with eight home runs and 18 RBIs, but was 0-for-6 in the first two games of this series.
After the Cardinals walked in a run to make it 5-2, Yelich pinch hit with the bases loaded and two outs in the ninth and struck out against closer Jordan Hicks to end the game.
Thames batted in Yelich's No. 2 spot in the order and homered in his first at-bat for a 1-0 lead. It was the 23rd straight run the Brewers had scored via the long ball.
