PITTSBURGH -- Jeff Locke pitched eight innings of one-run baseball and Starling Marte homered and drove in a career-high five RBIs to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 6-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday.

Pittsburgh's left-hander scattered four hits over eight frames and gave up just one run, on a sacrifice fly in the first inning. Locke (2-0) walked none and struck out six, and his eight innings tied a career high.

Milwaukee's 2-9 record ties the worst start in franchise history.

Milwaukee right-hander Kyle Lohse lasted six innings and yielded six runs on six hits. Lohse (0-3) walked three and struck out four.

Right fielder Ryan Braun, batting leadoff for the first time in his career, collected two hits and scored the Brewers' only run.

Third baseman Pedro Alvarez was the only Pirates starter who did not reach base.

Braun and shortstop Jean Segura led off the game with singles, and catcher Jonathan Lucroy scored Braun with a flyout to right.

Pittsburgh immediately countered as third baseman Josh Harrison singled leading off the home first then scored on right fielder Gregory Polanco's double to tie the game at 1-1.

Center fielder Andrew McCutchen drew a walk before Marte, Milwaukee's left fielder, drove him and Polanco home with a double for a 3-1 lead.

After yielding a run in the first, Locke tossed four scoreless innings in which the Brewers mustered only one hit. He struck out five in the next four frames.

Locke received additional run support in the fifth after McCutchen walked and second baseman Neil Walker singled to set up Marte's third home run of the season, a three-run line drive to the bleachers in left field for a 6-1 lead.

The Brewers got a run back in the ninth when Segura reached on a fielder's choice, took second on defensive indifference and scored on left fielder Khris Davis' two-out single.

NOTES: Milwaukee RF Ryan Braun batted leadoff for the first time in his nine-year career. ... Milwaukee tied the worst 11-game start in franchise history, at 2-9. ... Pittsburgh is 0-4 this season when being outhit. The Pirates outhit the Brewers 7-5 on Saturday.
