Dodgers 5, Padres 1: Dan Haren scattered four hits in six innings and Hanley Ramirez drove in two runs with a first-inning double as visiting Los Angeles took the rubber game of the three-game series against San Diego.
Haren (1-0), who gave up three doubles and two home runs in two innings of his final exhibition start Saturday night against the Los Angeles Angels, finished with six strikeouts, no walks and no earned runs surrendered in his 92-pitch outing. Andre Ethier had two hits and an RBI and Dee Gordon also drove in a run for the Dodgers.
Everth Cabrera had two hits in the leadoff spot for the second straight night and catcher Nick Hundley also had two hits for the Padres. San Diego starter Tyson Ross (0-1) went five innings, allowing four runs (three earned) and five hits, striking out seven but walking four.
The top of the order for the Dodgers did damage in the first inning for the second straight game against the Padres as Ramirez delivered a two-run double and Adrian Gonzalez followed with an RBI single for a 3-0 lead. Haren sailed through the first three innings before giving up an RBI single to Yonder Alonzo in the fourth that pulled the Padres within 3-1.
Los Angeles added a single run in the next half-inning when Ramirez walked, stole second and came home on Ethier’s single. The Dodgers tacked on an insurance run in the eighth when Gordon doubled in Juan Uribe with two outs.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Dodgers placed relief pitcher Brian Wilson on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in the ulnar nerve in his right elbow and recalled RHP Jose Dominguez. … The starting pitchers for the Dodgers through five games this season have allowed three earned runs in 29 2/3 innings for a 0.91 ERA. … LHPs Hyun-Jin Ryu and Paul Maholm, and RHP Zack Greinke will start in the three-game series this weekend against the visiting San Francisco Giants.
