Brewers 4, Mets 2: Khris Davis belted a two-run homer and Yovani Gallardo tossed six solid innings as visiting Milwaukee posted its second consecutive 4-2 triumph in the four-game series.
Norichika Aoki launched his second career leadoff homer among his two hits. Martin Maldonado followed a brilliant defensive play in the sixth inning with a mammoth homer in the seventh as the Brewers secured their fifth win in six outings.
Juan Lagares celebrated the birth of his son with a sacrifice fly and Justin Turner had an RBI infield single in the sixth inning to trim Milwaukee's lead to 3-2. Lucas Duda collected a pair of hits for New York, which fell for the third time in five games.
After Aoki slapped a 2-1 changeup from Carlos Torres (4-6) over the right-field wall, Davis gave Milwaukee a 3-0 advantage three batters later by depositing a 1-1 hanging slider into the seats in left for his 11th homer - and second in six games.
Gallardo (12-10) improved to 4-1 in his last eight starts after allowing two runs on seven hits. The 27-year-old escaped a bases-loaded jam in the sixth as Maldonado's diving tag on Daniel Murphy prevented the latter from successfully stealing home on a wild pitch. Two relievers bridged the gap to Jim Henderson, who retired the side in the ninth for his 28th save.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Davis, who went 2-for-4, exited the contest after attempting to leg out a grounder in the eighth inning. He suffered a strained left hamstring and a tight right quad. ... Murphy ripped a ground-rule double in the sixth inning to extend his hitting streak to nine games. ... Torres, who yielded three runs on four hits in six innings, is responsible for three of the Mets' five leadoff homers this season. Atlanta SS Andrelton Simmons and Washington CF Denard Span have also gone deep to lead off a game against the right-hander.
