Pirates 4, Giants 1: Kevin Correia pitched six strong innings and Garrett Jones homered to help Pittsburgh snap a five-game losing streak.
Jones led off the top of the second with a blast to right field off Ryan Vogelsong (0-1) and Alex Presley added a two-out RBI single later in the inning. The Pirates left the bases loaded in that frame and again in the seventh, but they were able to get a pair of insurance runs in the eighth inning on an error and a Josh Harrison sacrifice bunt.
Correia (1-0) yielded one run on just three hits and a walk in six innings, striking out two. Jared Hughes, Jason Grilli and Joel Hanrahan combined to keep San Francisco off the board the rest of the way. The Giants, who got their lone run in the fifth inning when Brandon Belt scored on an Emmanuel Burriss groundout, brought the tying run to the plate in both the eighth and ninth innings but came up empty.
Vogelsong, making his first start after finishing the spring on the disabled list with back trouble, struck out seven and walked three while allowing two runs on four hits in 6 1/3 innings.
GAME NOTEBOOK: San Francisco closer Brian Wilson confirmed that he will undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow and miss the rest of the 2012 season ... Pittsburgh RF Jose Tabata went 0-for-5 and made the final out in the second and seventh innings, leaving six men on base.
