Gaby Sanchez hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth, lifting the Florida Marlins to a 5-2 victory against the New York Mets on Tuesday at Sun Life Stadium.
David Wright atoned for an error that allowed the go-ahead run to score by tying the game with a solo home run in the eighth inning, his 25th of the season, but New York's bullpen couldn't hold it there.
Elmer Dessens (3-2) entered with two outs in the eighth and allowed singles to Hanley Ramirez and Dan Uggla before surrendering Sanchez's 19th homer of the season.
Jose Veras (3-2) earned the win despite allowing Wright's homer. Clay Hensley worked a scoreless ninth for his fourth save.
Rookie outfielder Lucas Duda gave the Mets a 1-0 lead with a solo homer in the second inning, his second shot of the year. Duda's average had slipped to .030 on Sept. 15, but he has gone 7-for-14 over his past five games to raise his average to .170.
Florida tied it on Chad Tracy's RBI groundout in the second and took the lead when Wright's error on a Mike Stanton grounder allowed Sanchez to score in the seventh.
Marlins rookie Adalberto Mendez allowed one run on 10 hits over seven innings in his third major league start. Mendez stood to be the winning pitcher until Wright's homer tied it in the eighth.
New York starter Mike Pelfrey gave up two runs -- one earned -- on five hits over seven innings, failing to win his 16th game of the season.
