Avisail Garcia hit a two-run homer in the first inning, and Matt Duffy drove in three runs with a career-best-equaling four hits Monday night as the visiting Tampa Bay Rays defeated the San Diego Padres 10-4.

Tampa Bay earned its fourth straight win to open a six-game West Coast swing and improved its record to 11-2 over the past 13 games. The Padres lost a second straight game and are 10-18 since the All-Star break.

Right-hander Austin Pruitt (2-0), who took over after opener Diego Castillo pitched the first, allowed one run on five hits with four strikeouts over four innings to get credit for the win.

Padres left-hander Joey Lucchesi (7-7) gave up three runs on five hits and three walks with six strikeouts.

San Diego infielder Ian Kinsler hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth after tossing a scoreless top half of the inning in the first pitching performance of his career.

Garcia's 17th homer of the season, which followed a one-out walk drawn by Travis d'Arnaud, gave the Rays a quick 2-0 lead.

The Padres tied the game at 2-2 with single runs in the first (on a run-scoring double by Eric Hosmer) and the second (on a leadoff double by Manuel Margot and an RBI single by Lucchesi).

The Rays broke the tie in the third, then broke the game open with three runs in the seventh and four in the eighth against the San Diego bullpen.

Guillermo Heredia opened the third with a walk, moved to third on a single by Garcia and scored on Duffy's infield hit off the glove of sliding second baseman Luis Urias.

Duffy, whose four hits followed a walk in his first plate appearance, had a two-run single to cap the Rays' three-run seventh. Heredia again opened the inning with a walk. He stole second and scored on a single by Jesus Aguilar. Garcia doubled Aguilar to third, and Duffy drove both home with a single to left.

The Rays scored four runs off reliever Carl Edwards Jr. in the eighth, but they did not score against Kinsler in the ninth despite having a hit, two walks and a hit batter in the inning. Tampa Bay piled up 14 hits and drew eight walks (three by Heredia) overall.

Padres relief pitchers other than Kinsler surrendered seven runs on eight hits and three walks in 3 1/3 innings.
