Teuvo Teravainen and Seth Jarvis each had a goal and an assist in a four-goal first period as the host Carolina Hurricanes beat the Edmonton Oilers 6-3 on Wednesday night at Raleigh, N.C.

Jesper Fast, Jack Drury and Martin Necas also scored, and Brent Burns' empty-netter held off a late Oilers charge to give the Hurricanes their eighth win in 11 games. Carolina's Pyotr Kochetkov stopped 13 of 15 shots in relief of Antti Raanta, who entered amid a 16-0-1 home stretch, but left after one period for precautionary reasons, per Sportsnet.

Zach Hyman scored twice and Stuart Skinner was pulled after allowing four goals on 12 shots for Edmonton, which has yielded 17 goals during a three-game skid that has followed three straight wins.

Carolina opened the scoring with two goals in a span of 35 seconds. With 10:43 remaining in the first, the puck glanced off the Hurricanes' Jordan Martinook and over for Fast to convert. Then via a two-on-one, Michael Bunting sent a cross-slot pass for Drury to record his first goal of the season.

The Hurricanes made it 3-0 with 8:37 left in the first when Sebastian Aho slid the puck across the top of the crease for Teravainen to bury his 10th of the season with Skinner out of position. Then Jarvis got behind the Oilers' defense and sent in a wrister with 5:13 remaining to chase Skinner.

Edmonton got on the board with 2:47 left before the first intermission when it snapped a three-game, power-play drought. Hyman chipped in his own rebound just five seconds into the man-advantage to make it a 4-1 game.

However, Carolina got that goal back just 2:13 into the second when Necas made his way through some net-front traffic to put home his own rebound. The Hurricanes appeared to go up 6-1 later in the period, but Aho's goal was taken off the board as video review determined the play was offside.

Edmonton, however, got closer while short-handed when Mattias Ekholm scored in transition with 2:12 remaining in the middle frame. Hyman's second goal and 10th of the season came when he chipped in Connor McDavid's falling backhand pass 3:46 into the third.
