Jeriah Horne came off the bench to score 18 points, leading Nebraska to an 81-76 victory over visiting Southern on Tuesday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Neb.

Horne made 7 of 9 field-goal attempts and 4 of 6 from 3-point range for Nebraska (6-6). Glynn Watson Jr. scored 13 points, including two clutch free throws in the closing seconds. Anton Gill and Tai Webster had 10 points apiece.

Tre'lun Banks scored 16 points for Southern (4-8). Emanual Shepherd scored 15 points. Shawn Prudhomme had 14. Jared Sam posted 13 points and eight rebounds.

Nebraska outscored Southern 5-0 to start the game, but Rashad Andrews and Banks made 3-pointers to help the Jaguars mount an 11-0 run. The Jaguars maintained a slight lead until Gill made a 3-pointer to put the Cornhuskers up 16-14. That basket came as part of a 14-2 run that put Nebraska up 25-16 midway through the opening period.

The Jaguars battled back to cut the deficit to three on a 3-pointer by Prudhomme. The Cornhuskers stretched the lead to seven on two free throws by Ed Morrow, but they were clinging to a 40-36 lead at the break after Brendon Ganaway made a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Southern went up 42-40 on a dunk by Sam early in the second period. The game was tied with just over 11 minutes to play when Horne made a 3-pointer to spark an 8-0 run that put the Cornhuskers up 61-53. The Jaguars got within three on a jumper by Banks with just under five minutes remaining, but Nebraska pulled away with a 9-2 run.

The Jaguars made one last charge to cut a 10-point deficit to three in the final seconds, but Watson made two free throws with one second remaining to secure the victory.
