No. 9 Florida 79, Yale 58: Kenny Boynton matched a career-high with 28 points and became the school's all-time leader in 3-pointers after drilling seven of his eight in the second half as the visiting Gators blitzed the Bulldogs.
Boynton finished 9-for-12 from the field, including 8-for-10 from 3-point range. Will Yeguete collected 14 points and nine rebounds for Florida (10-2), which shot 60 percent from the field to improve to 2-2 outside the Sunshine State this season.
After Javier Duren's 3-pointer brought Yale (5-11) to within three at 26-23, the Gators found their shooting touch to score 21 consecutive points to bridge the first and second half.
Boynton made a 3-pointer and Michael Frazier III sank three foul shots during the 9-0 spurt to end the first half. The second half saw more of the same as Boynton drilled a pair of 3-pointers to highlight the 12-0 run just 1:53 into the session.
Justin Sears had a team-high 15 points and four steals and Duren added 14 points for Yale.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Boynton, who has 290 3-pointers, moved past Lee Humphrey for the school record. The senior entered the contest making just seven of his previous 39 attempts. ... Florida F Erik Murphy sat out the contest with bruised ribs. The game was going to be a homecoming of sorts for Murphy, who had family and friends making the trip from South Kingstown (R.I.) to New Haven (Conn.). ... The Gators, who improved to 7-2 versus Ivy League representatives, will open SEC play versus Georgia on Wednesday.
