Darius Johnson-Odom scored 16 points to lead six players in double figures as No. 21 Marquette trounced visiting Mount St. Mary's 91-37 in its season opener on Friday.
The Golden Eagles (1-0) used a run of 10 unanswered points in the middle of the first half to pull out to a 24-7 lead and stretched the cushion to 49-18 by intermission.
Defensive pressure was the catalyst - Marquette had 11 steals in the opening period and forced 29 turnovers, 18 before the break.
Marquette continued to pull away after the intermission, extending the margin to 80-29 with 6:07 to go before beginning to empty its bench.
Jae Crowder and Chris Otule contributed 14 points apiece, while Junior Cadougan had 10 of Marquette's 26 assists.
Julian Norfleet's 12 points led the Mountaineers (0-1), who shot 29 percent from the field and missed 16-of-18 3-point attempts.
