Shaun Hill threw for 227 yards and three touchdowns and Stefan Logan ran a kickoff back for a touchdown as the host Detroit Lions routed the St. Louis Rams 44-6 on Sunday to earn their first victory of the season.
Nate Burleson led the way with four catches for 56 yards and a score and rookie Jahvid Best added 67 yards rushing for the Lions (1-4), who finally broke through after losing three of their games by a combined 10 points.
The teams traded field goals in the first quarter, with the Rams (2-3) tying it at 3-3 as time expired in the opening frameperiod. Logan fielded the ensuing kickoff deep in his own end zone and returned it 105 yards for the first touchdown of his career.
Hill took over from there, hitting Calvin Johnson with a 1-yard touchdown pass later in the second and finding Brandon Pettigrew from 3 yards out with 10 seconds remaining in the half to send Detroit into the locker room with a 24-6 edge.
The Lions forced a three-and-out to start the third quarter and Hill needed only four plays to find Burleson, hitting the veteran receiver with a 26-yard strike to push it to 31-6.
Jason Hanson added two long field goals in the fourth quarter and Alphonso Smith returned an interception for a score to cap the blowout.
