Samir Doughty scored 14 of his team-high 22 points in the second half as Auburn rallied for a 73-66 win against Tennessee in Southeastern Conference play Saturday afternoon in Auburn, Ala.
Doughty was the only player in double figures for the No. 13 Tigers (23-4, 10-4 SEC), who were without starting forward Isaac Okoro (hamstring) for a third consecutive outing.
Jordan Bowden scored a career-high 28 points for the Volunteers (15-12, 7-7), who committed 13 of their season-high 24 turnovers in the second half.
The Vols more than doubled an eight-point halftime lead to 17 points early in the second half, with Bowden's 3-pointer giving them a 54-37 advantage before the Tigers got things going.
The Tigers went on an 18-0 run that included 10 points by Doughty to give Auburn its first lead, 55-54, since the 7:17 mark of the first half. The Vols went scoreless for 7 minutes, 11 seconds and committed six turnovers in losing their double-digit cushion.
Tennessee went back up 60-57 but Auburn responded with a 7-0 run to regain control.
The Tigers closed out their 18th consecutive home win and 15th this season with two free throws each by J'Von McCormick and Doughty in the closing seconds after the Vols' final turnover came with 23 seconds left and the score 69-66.
Bowden had a perfect shooting first-half, making all five of his field goals (two from 3-point range) and all five free throws for 17 points as the Vols led 41-33 at the break despite getting no points from John Fulkerson, who came into the game tied with Bowden for the team scoring lead with a 13.0 average.
Fulkerson picked up two quick personals and played less than three minutes in the first half. He finished with six points.
