SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Sacramento Kings got a glimpse of what can happen when the ball moves freely and their offense doesn't get stagnant. The image certainly left an impression.

"That," guard Omri Casspi said, "is how we have to play."

DeMarcus Cousins and Darren Collison combined for 26 of Sacramento's 39 third-quarter points, and the Kings blitzed the Los Angeles Lakers 116-92 at the Golden 1 Center on a Monday night when tempers ran high.

Lakers coach Luke Walton was ejected, and Los Angeles was whistled for six technical fouls. Cousins also received a technical, his NBA-leading ninth of the season.

The Kings also won despite losing Ben McLemore and Rudy Gay to injuries. McLemore sustained a bruised left thigh after colliding with Lakers center Timofey Mozgov in the first quarter. Gay hurt a hip flexor and did not play in the second half.

It didn't matter. Sacramento recorded its highest-scoring quarter of the season, outscoring the Lakers 39-13 to turn a 59-48 halftime deficit into a rout.

"A lot of things went into it, but most of it was getting the energy right," Casspi said. "Guys were getting off the ball, pressuring on defense, getting stops and turning that into flow on offense. ... The ball was popping from side-to-side. Guys weren't playing with any agendas. We were all moving the ball."

Cousins scored 16 of his game-high 31 points in the quarter, and Collison added 10 of his 20 for the Kings, who endured a season-worst eight-point fourth quarter in a 104-84 loss at Utah on Saturday. Cousins also finished with 16 rebounds, and Sacramento (8-16) handed the struggling Lakers (10-17) their seventh consecutive defeat.

D'Angelo Russell scored 17 points in 20 minutes to lead the Lakers, but Los Angeles made just 38 percent of its shots and was outscored 66-28 inside the paint.

"I felt like for the first time this season, we caved in," Walton said. "We gave up, and that's disheartening."

Garrett Temple's layup started the scoring for the Kings after halftime, but Cousins' 3-pointer on Sacramento's next possession signaled the onslaught. Sacramento scored 11 of the quarter's first 13 points, then blitzed the Lakers with a 23-2 run, starting with Temple's 17-footer with 7:13 left that broke a 64-64 tie.

"The guys grabbed each other and came out and played with a lot of energy," Kings coach Dave Joerger said. "So it's a real credit to our guys."

Collison made all three of his 3-pointers in the quarter, and Cousins nailed both of his. Sacramento canned 6 of 7 from long distance during the period and 14 of 19 shots overall.

Temple finished with 16 points and Casspi added 13 for Sacramento. Koufos contributed 10 points and seven rebounds.

Luol Deng added 16 points for Los Angeles. Jordan Clarkson tallied 15 points and Lou Williams had 14, ending a run of five consecutive games in which he led the Lakers in scoring.

Nick Young, like Russell playing his second game after a lengthy absence because of injury, scored eight points in 26 minutes.

Walton received the first ejection of his coaching career, when he ran on the floor and picked up two technical fouls with 4:14 left in the first quarter. Walton was livid after Julius Randle became entangled with Cousins near halfcourt and appeared to be tossed by Cousins like a rag doll to the floor. Randle also received a technical foul on the play.

"I wanted to stand up for my guys," he said. "What happened on the floor wasn't right. ... If I see something that's wrong, I've got to stand up for my guys."

Russell received a technical foul in the third quarter, and Williams received one in the fourth. Assistant coach Brian Shaw, who took over for Walton, earned his technical in the third quarter.

NOTES: Lakers Gs D'Angelo Russell and Nick Young were expected to have their minutes limited as they return from injury. Russell has averaged 18 minutes in his first two games back. Young played 28 minutes a night after playing 20 in his return. The Lakers are 7-8 and averaged 109.9 points in the 15 games the two played together before Monday. Los Angeles is 3-9 and averages 99.4 points when at least one of the two doesn't play. ... Kings C DeMarcus Cousins, who entered the season saying he was determined to be more controlled in his demeanor, leads the NBA with nine technical fouls after getting one Monday, and he is on pace to collect a career-high 30. Cousins led the league in technical fouls last season for the third time in six years. ... Sacramento plays its next three on the road, starting with a Wednesday contest at Houston. ... The Lakers kicked off a seven-game, 13-day trip, with the remaining six contests against Eastern Conference opponents. The road trip is Los Angeles' longest of the season.
