Wizards 102, Pacers 96: Bradley Beal scored 14 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter as visiting Washington knocked off top-seeded Indiana to take Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Trevor Ariza went 6-of-6 from 3-point range en route to 22 points and Marcin Gortat collected 12 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks for the Wizards, who took Game 1 on the road for the second straight series. Nene contributed 15 points and John Wall recorded 13 points and nine assists for fifth-seeded Washington.
Paul George went 4-of-17 from the field but ended up with 18 points for the Pacers, who dropped Game 1 at home for the second consecutive series. George Hill scored 18 points, David West added 15 points and 12 rebounds and Lance Stephenson scored 12 points for Indiana.
The Pacers played strong defensively in the third quarter to get back into the game and pulled within 82-76 on George’s three-point play with 7:41 left in the contest, but Beal responded with a 3-pointer and buried another less than a minute later to spread the advantage back out to 12 points. Indiana went seven minutes without a field goal before Chris Copeland’s 3-pointer made it 94-87 with 40.6 seconds to play but the Wizards closed it at the line.
Ariza hit back-to-back 3-pointers to begin the game and the Wizards started out hot, spreading it out to 23-10 on Ariza’s third 3-pointer of the quarter and taking a 13-point cushion into the second. Indiana battled back to take a brief lead at 31-30 before Washington got hot again and went into the break up 56-43.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Indiana C Roy Hibbert went scoreless and did not record a rebound in 18 minutes as Washington dominated the glass 53-36. … Beal (3-of-5) and Ariza helped the Wizards knock down 10-of-16 from beyond the arc. … Washington F Drew Gooden provided a boost off the bench with 12 points and 13 rebounds in 18 minutes.
