Raptors 125, 76ers 114: Jonas Valanciunas erupted for a career-high 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as host Toronto inched closer to securing the Atlantic Division title.
Valanciunas connected on 10-of-14 attempts for the Raptors, who lead Brooklyn by three games in the race for the division title. Kyle Lowry led the way with 29 points while DeMar DeRozan and Patrick Patterson added 17 apiece as Toronto shot 50 percent from the field while hitting 12 3-pointers en route to its fourth consecutive win.
Henry Sims had 22 points for the 76ers, who have dropped back-to-back games. Michael Carter-Williams added 19 points, nine rebounds and eight assists while James Anderson had 17 points and Thaddeus Young chipped in with 16.
Philadelphia trimmed an eight-point deficit to one on Anderson's 3-pointer with 6:22 remaining in the third quarter, but Valanciunas countered with a layup and Terrence Ross knocked down a pair of 3-pointers in the final three minutes as the Raptors led 98-89. Nando de Colo hit from long range to stem a 76ers surge with 7:50 remaining, and Lowry reeled off eight straight Toronto points inside four minutes left to put the game away.
Valanciunas dominated inside in the early going, racking up 10 points and six rebounds as the Raptors seized a 34-28 advantage after one quarter. The 76ers fought back to tie it three times early in the second, but John Salmons and Greivis Vasquez drilled 3-pointers and Valanciunas reeled off six straight Toronto points late in the frame to lift the Raptors to a 68-60 halftime lead.
GAME NOTEBOOK: DeRozan needed medical attention in the final minute after sustaining a cut near his left eye. He hit one of two free throws with blood streaming from his face before scurrying off the court. ... Any Toronto win or Brooklyn loss in the final four games will secure the first Raptors' division crown since 2007. ... The Raptors (46-32) can equal the franchise record for victories in a season with a victory Friday against New York.
