Mavericks 128, Thunder 119 (OT): Dirk Nowitzki scored seven of his 32 points in the extra session and also recorded 10 rebounds, six assists and four steals as host Dallas defeated Oklahoma City.
Jose Calderon made six 3-pointers and contributed 22 points and eight assists as the Mavericks moved into a virtual tie for seventh place with the Memphis Grizzlies in the Western Conference playoff race. Monta Ellis added 17 points and Vince Carter had 16 for Dallas, which scored the first five points of the overtime and never again trailed.
Kevin Durant of the Thunder scored 43 points for his 36th consecutive outing of 25 or more points as he closes in on the 40-game streak by Michael Jordan from 1986-87. Russell Westbrook added 23 points, eight assists and seven rebounds as Oklahoma City had a four-game winning streak snapped and fell 2 1/2 games behind the San Antonio Spurs for the best record in the Western Conference.
Ellis scored seven points during a 12-3 burst that saw Dallas take a 101-94 advantage in the fourth quarter but the Thunder responded with an 11-3 run to take a 105-104 lead with 2:34 remaining in regulation. Durant drained a 3-pointer with 39.9 seconds left to put Oklahoma City ahead but Calderon knocked down a 3-pointer with 26.3 seconds left to knot the score at 111 and drained another one 91 seconds into the overtime to help the Mavericks begin to pull away.
Durant scored 20 first-half points as Oklahoma City held a 60-59 lead at the break. Dallas used an 11-0 burst in the third quarter to take a 78-73 lead before the Thunder finished strong to take an 89-84 edge into the fourth quarter.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Westbrook played 33 minutes after sitting out Monday’s game against Denver to rest his balky knee. … Dallas was 15-of-38 from 3-point range while Oklahoma City was 12-of-33. … The Thunder had a 29-8 edge in fast-break points.
